Psychotherapy, Separation & Divorce Services

Jeremy Klass, LICSW, LCSW-C, LCSW, JD

Welcome. Seeking help and pursuing change is a brave decision which I deeply admire. I am pleased you have found your way to this site, where I will introduce myself and the types of counseling I provide, so you can decide whether I might be able to help you or your family achieve your goals. I am licensed as a clinical social worker in DC, Maryland and Virginia, enabling me to work with clients no matter where they are located in the DMV. Whether you are considering therapy or are interested in exploring separation and divorce services, I am here to help you identify, clarify and achieve your goals. I invite you to explore this site to learn more about the services I offer.

PSYCHOTHERAPY

In my therapy practice, I help people navigate and manage anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, major life and career transitions, and substance abuse. I work primarily with adults, including college and graduate students. I believe a strong therapeutic relationship is a key ingredient for meaningful change. My style is transparent and direct. I find humor can play an important role in the therapeutic process.

SEPARATION & DIVORCE

In my separation and divorce practice, I provide a variety of services to individuals, couples and families before, during and after separation or divorce. Depending on your needs, I can serve as a divorce coach, a mediator or a parent coordinator.  In all of these roles, I work with clients to help them resolve their differences in a respectful manner. When children are involved, I help co-parents improve cooperation and communication while reducing conflict. As a member of the DC Academy of Collaborative Professionals, I serve as a collaborative coach, collaborating with attorneys and financial specialists to help clients reach mutually acceptable solutions without resorting to litigation.

CAREER COUNSELING

As a career-switcher myself, I’m keenly interested in clients’ motivations for exploring change. I assist clients in identifying patterns, in themselves or in the workplace, that might be getting in the way of greater career satisfaction. I also help clients explore the relationship they have with work, and how this influences their perspective on their current job and on potential future job opportunities.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I primarily work with adults 18 and up, and occasionally with older adolescents.

Yes! I am offering limited in-person appointments at 1350 Connecticut Avenue NW, just south of Dupont Circle, in Washington DC.  For the most part though, I am working remotely and using HIPAA-compliant platforms like Zoom to meet with my clients. Virtual sessions create some challenges while alleviating others. I work with my clients to ensure we are connecting in a meaningful way and progressing toward their goals.

No, I am not a prescriber. If at any point in our work together you would like to explore medication, I am happy to refer you to a prescriber to see whether medication management makes sense for you. If you already take medication, I am happy to coordinate care with your prescriber as needed.

I do not participate in any insurance networks. This means I require direct payment, which most clients handle by keeping a credit card on file. I send monthly Superbills which you can use to submit to your insurance provider to seek reimbursement. Please check with your health insurance provider for the details of your out-of-network mental health coverage. I am a licensed clinical social worker in Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia, and many insurance plans will provide partial reimbursement for treatment I provide. Please note: Unlike psychotherapy, separation and divorce services (e.g., parent coordination, mediation, Collaborative Divorce and Collaborative Coaching) are – unfortunately – not reimbursable by insurance.

I will ask for a retainer at the beginning of our engagement, to be replenished as needed. Any unused portion of the retainer will be returned at the end of our work together.
